It is expected to be Maruti's first electric MPV, sharing underpinnings with the e Vitara and it could debut before the end of 2026.

  • Upcoming Suzuki YMC MPV will share its platform and batteries with eVitara

  • Production model expected to launch till the end of 2026

  • Toyota’s version of the SUV is also in the works

A brand new Maruti 3 row Electric MPV has been spotted testing on Indian roads, and it is generating a lot of excitement. Internally codenamed YMC, this is expected to be Maruti Suzuki's first-ever Maruti electric family car- a proper three-row EV built for Indian families who need space, practicality and zero-emission mobility all in one package.

Carbike4u had exclusively reported about the YMC MPV's development back in February 2024, and the latest spy shots confirm that the project is well and truly progressing.

What the Spy Shots Reveal

The test mule gives away several key details. The most obvious giveaway that this is a New Maruti EV 2026 is the complete absence of an exhaust pipe at the rear. The front bumper air intakes bear a strong resemblance to those on the e Vitara and may even feature the same active aero flaps. Large aero-optimised alloy wheels are also visible. The overall silhouette is tall, boxy and very MPV-like, with upright front and rear ends. The large headlamps have a drop-down element, while vertical tail lamps at the rear wrap around the windscreen — reminiscent of the Ertiga and appear to be connected by a light band. A distinctly large rear quarter section confirms this is indeed a three-row vehicle. Unlike the eVitara, this one uses regular pull-type door handles rather than flush ones, and the body panels appear smoother and less contoured than its SUV sibling.

Platform, Battery and Maruti YMC EV Range

According to our sources, the Maruti 7-seater EV will use the same skateboard electric platform as the e Vitara and is expected to come with the same 49kWh and 61kWh battery pack options. However, owing to its larger and heavier body, the Maruti YMC EV Range is likely to be lower than the e Vitara's maximum claimed range of 543km. The electric motor and other powertrain components will be shared between both models, which helps keep development costs in check and speeds up the production timeline. Maruti is reportedly targeting a volume potential of over 50,000 units to 1 lakh units annually, including exports — a confident bet on the segment's growth.

Maruti YMC EV Launch Date

The Maruti 7-seater EV launch date india is expected to follow a two-step process. The production model is likely to make its debut towards the end of 2026, with the actual sales launch possibly happening sometime in 2027. The Maruti electric 7-seater launch date will also depend on how quickly Maruti can finalise homologation and dealer-level readiness. Once launched, it will become the Maruti brand's first three-row EV and a significant addition to its MPV lineup, which currently includes the Ertiga, XL6 and the Invicto.

Toyota Version Also in the Works

Just like the e Vitara spawned the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella, the Maruti 3 row Electric MPV will also give rise to a Toyota-badged derivative at a later stage. This twin-brand strategy has worked well for both Maruti and Toyota in the past, and the YMC platform is expected to follow the same path. The Toyota version is likely to carry a slightly different design and may be positioned at a small premium over the Maruti variant.

Will It Succeed?

The e Vitara has not quite set the market on fire since its launch, and the YMC MPV will face a similar challenge of convincing family buyers to make the electric switch in a segment where the Ertiga and XL6 continue to sell strongly on petrol. However, if Maruti prices it aggressively and delivers on real-world range, the Maruti electric family car could find genuine traction, especially among buyers looking for a future-ready people mover for city and highway use.

All details are based on spy shots and sources close to development. Official specifications and launch timeline will be confirmed by Maruti Suzuki closer to the debut.
