Maruti Suzuki Flex Fuel Car Launching on June 5 – Nitin Gadkari Makes Big Announcement

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has confirmed that Maruti Suzuki will launch a flex fuel car in Delhi on June 5 2026. June 5 is Environment Day and a programme has been planned in Delhi where Maruti Suzuki will launch vehicles running 100 percent on ethanol.
The upcoming Maruti Suzuki flex fuel vehicle will be the country's first four-wheeler to run on fuel blends of up to E100 which means 100 percent ethanol with specially designed fuel storage, delivery and ignition systems.
Which Car Is Likely to Launch
The Fronx flex fuel vehicle was showcased at the Japan Mobility Show 2025 in Tokyo and was capable of running fuel blends of up to E85 which means 85 percent ethanol. The Fronx flex fuel vehicle is expected to receive changes to make it E100 compliant for the India launch.
Ethanol has a higher tendency to retain moisture compared to regular petrol so the crossover will have specially designed fuel systems and engine components.
What Nitin Gadkari Said
Speaking at an event in Nagpur, Gadkari said "Our biggest pollution problem is fossil fuels. Petrol and diesel. That is why as the Transport Minister I am happy that we have introduced electric scooters, electric cars, electric buses, electric trucks, and now even electric tractors in the country.
He added that the vehicle he arrived in runs 100 percent on bioethanol. He said ethanol is priced at Rs 65 per litre and while the vehicle runs it also generates 60 percent electricity. He has been using this vehicle for the last one and a half years.
This is a significant point. Compared to petrol and diesel the effective fuel cost of running on ethanol comes to around Rs 25 per litre. He described it as import substitute, cost-effective, pollution-free and indigenous.
Why This Matters for India
Gadkari pointed out that 87 percent of India's petrol, diesel and gas is imported. These fuels not only cause pollution but also increase India's import bill significantly.
Flex fuel technology changes this. Ethanol is made from sugarcane, corn and other crops that Indian farmers grow. When cars run on ethanol India reduces its dependence on imported crude oil and Indian farmers earn more from their produce.
What is a Flex Fuel Car and How Does It Work
A flex fuel car can run on regular petrol, a mix of petrol and ethanol or even 100 percent ethanol. You do not need to worry about which pump to use. The car's engine and fuel system automatically detect the fuel blend and adjust accordingly.
E85 means 85 percent ethanol mixed with 15 percent petrol. E100 means pure ethanol with no petrol mixed in at all. India's upcoming Maruti flex fuel car will be capable of running on any blend from regular petrol all the way up to E100.
The main benefits are lower running cost, reduced pollution and less dependence on imported crude oil.
Launch details are based on Nitin Gadkari's official statement at an event in Nagpur on May 25 2026. Final product details will be confirmed on June 5 2026 at the official Maruti Suzuki launch event in Delhi.
