Most Affordable 30 kmpl Maruti Car Expected Soon

Maruti Suzuki is working on a strong hybrid powertrain for its affordable car lineup, and the Maruti Swift is one of the models set to benefit from this technology. Suzuki revealed the strong hybrid version of its popular Swift hatchback at the 2018 Indonesia Auto Show. The model previewed Suzuki’s plans to bring better fuel efficiency and cleaner hybrid technology to its mass-market cars.

What Is the Maruti Swift Hybrid and How Is It Different?

Most current Maruti cars come with a mild hybrid (SHVS) system, which only assists the engine slightly and offers limited fuel savings. The upcoming Maruti Swift Hybrid will use a strong hybrid powertrain.

The Swift Hybrid uses a petrol engine paired with an electric motor, also called an MGU or motor generator unit. This setup is linked to a 5-speed AMT gearbox with paddle shifters. Its 1.2-litre K12C petrol engine produces 91PS and 118Nm, while the India-spec Swift petrol uses a 1.2-litre K12B engine that delivers 83PS and 113Nm.

Maruti Swift Hybrid Mileage: What to Expect

The Maruti Swift Hybrid mileage is expected to be in the range of 30 to 35 kmpl, depending on driving conditions.

For context, the current Maruti Swift already returns around 24 kmpl under standard testing conditions. A jump to 30+ kmpl through the strong hybrid system would make the Swift Hybrid one of the most fuel-efficient hybrid cars available in India at an affordable price.

Design & Features Changes

On the outside, the Maruti Swift Hybrid is not expected to bring any design changes compared to the current model. The styling will largely remain the same, which makes sense since the Swift received a full generation update recently and does not need a visual refresh yet.

Maruti Swift Hybrid Launch Date in India

The Maruti Swift Hybrid launch date in India is expected to fall in the second half of 2027. Reports suggest that Maruti will first debut this strong hybrid technology on the Fronx, and it will then be rolled out to the Swift and other models in the lineup progressively. So, the Swift Hybrid is not the first car to get this powertrain, it follows the Fronx hybrid.

Maruti Swift Hybrid Price in India

The Maruti Swift Hybrid price is expected to be around Rs 75,000 to Rs 1 lakh more than the corresponding regular Swift variants. Since the current Swift is priced between Rs 6.82 lakh and Rs 10.25 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), the hybrid variants could start somewhere around Rs 8 lakh to Rs 11 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), depending on the trim levels offered.
