New Hyundai IONIQ 5 Launched in India at Rs 55.70 Lakh – 690 Km Range and Major Tech Upgrades
Hyundai India has officially launched the updated IONIQ 5 today on April 28 2026. The price is Rs 55,70,000 ex-showroom and the car comes with a significantly larger 84 kWh battery pack delivering up to 690 km of ARAI certified driving range. That range figure is the headline number and it makes the new IONIQ 5 one of the longest ranging electric cars available in India right now.

Along with the bigger battery the new IONIQ 5 gets updated exterior styling, a refreshed interior, next-generation connected technology including in-car payment for EV charging and new safety features.
Bigger Battery, Longer Range - 690 Km on a Full Charge

The single biggest change in the new IONIQ 5 is the battery. The car now gets an 84.0 kWh battery pack and an ARAI certified range of up to 690 km on a full charge. This directly addresses one of the most common concerns of electric car buyers in India - how far can it go on a single charge.
690 km is enough to cover the Delhi to Jaipur to Delhi round trip without charging. For most Indian buyers who do city driving daily this range means weeks of use between charges.
New Exterior Design Updates
The IONIQ 5 retains its iconic Parametric Pixel design identity but gets a sharper and more premium look with these updates:
Bold new front and rear bumper design
Robust front and rear skid plates
New sporty alloy wheel design
New rear spoiler design
New Hi-tech V-garnish lighting design at the rear
The updates are not drastic but they are meaningful. The front and rear look more assertive and the new alloy wheel design freshens up the side profile nicely.
Interior Updates - Cleaner and More Functional
Inside the new IONIQ 5 the changes focus on usability and a more premium feel:

New 3-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel with interactive 4-dots pixel light and heating function
Dual 12.3-inch infotainment and cluster displays
Redesigned wireless smartphone charging pad with integrated physical controls for heated and ventilated seats
Redesigned centre fascia
The steering wheel with the 4-dot pixel illumination is a nice design touch that connects back to the Parametric Pixel design language of the car.
Technology Upgrades - Connected, OTA and In-Car Payment
This is where the new IONIQ 5 makes the most meaningful progress for everyday ownership. Key new technology additions include:
Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) — a 12.3-inch navigation system
Controller Over-the-Air (C-OTA) updates — the car can receive software updates wirelessly
Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay — both are now wireless
Active Sound Design (ASD) — a new audio feature
Remote immobilisation via Hyundai Bluelink — you can remotely prevent the car from starting if it is stolen
In-car payment for EV charging — pay for charging directly from the infotainment screen without using a phone or card
The remote immobilisation feature via Bluelink is particularly noteworthy. If your car is stolen you can remotely lock out the ignition through the Bluelink app giving you an extra layer of security that goes beyond a regular alarm.
The in-car charging payment is also a very practical addition. Pull up to a charger, plug in and pay from the car's screen itself without fumbling with an app or a tap card.
Colour Options
The new IONIQ 5 is available in four colours all with an Obsidian Black interior theme:
Gravity Gold Matte
Midnight Black Pearl
Titan Grey
Optic White
What Hyundai MD and CEO Tarun Garg said at the launch is worth noting. He pointed out that the IONIQ 5 has won the World Car of the Year title and was recognised as the Green Car of the Year at the Indian Car of the Year Awards. He said the new updates build on that strong foundation by offering meaningful upgrades in range, technology and everyday convenience.
At Rs 55,70,000 ex-showroom the new IONIQ 5 sits in premium EV territory but with 690 km of range, OTA updates, wireless CarPlay and in-car payment for charging it brings a genuinely future-ready package to the table.
