The four newly added institutions are IIT Kanpur, IIT Hyderabad, VNIT Nagpur, and Tezpur University. These institutes have now joined the three founding partners — IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, and IIT Bombay — which became part of the Hyundai CoE initiative during its 2025 launch. Hyundai believes that working together with these top institutions will help build a stronger research ecosystem for India’s fast-growing EV market.

Key Highlights Of Hyundai CoE Expansion

  • Total partner institutes increased from 3 to 7

  • Main focus on EV battery and electrification research

  • 39 joint research projects already in progress

  • India-specific EV technologies under development

Main Focus Areas Of Research

According to Hyundai Motor Group, the Hyundai CoE initiative will mainly focus on improving EV battery technologies and electrification systems. The research work will include battery cells, battery management systems (BMS), safety technologies, energy density, battery durability, and diagnostic systems. Hyundai says these technologies are important for improving EV performance, driving range, charging efficiency, and long-term reliability in Indian driving conditions.

Hyundai CoE Is Already Working On 39 Projects

The Hyundai Center of Excellence is currently handling 39 joint research projects across all seven partner universities. Some of the major projects include battery material development specially designed for Indian weather and road conditions, along with an AI-powered Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) platform. Hyundai says these projects are aimed at making future EVs smarter, safer, and more efficient for Indian customers.

Technologies Hyundai Is Focusing On

  • Battery cells and battery management systems

  • EV safety and durability technologies

  • AI-powered Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) platform

  • Better energy density and charging efficiency

Knowledge Exchange Program Between India And Korea

To improve collaboration further, Hyundai Motor Group is also introducing a Korea Visiting Program for Indian and Korean researchers. Through this initiative, experts and students from both countries will be able to exchange knowledge and work together on EV technologies and future mobility solutions. Hyundai also plans to organise global e-conferences and technology forums involving government officials, industry leaders, and academic researchers.

Hyundai Wants To Strengthen India’s EV Ecosystem

Hyundai says the long-term goal of the Hyundai CoE initiative is to create a strong EV research hub that can support India’s electrification journey in the coming years. The company believes partnerships with leading Indian institutions will help speed up innovation and encourage the development of advanced EV technologies for the Indian market. Hyundai also stated that research programs, seminars, and collaborative projects will continue playing an important role in this initiative.
