2026 Hyundai Exter Facelift Launched at Rs 5.79 Lakh — Everything That Has Changed

Hyundai launched the 2026 Exter facelift in India on March 20 with prices starting at Rs 5.79 lakh ex-showroom. The Exter has crossed 2 lakh customers since its launch in 2023, and this update is Hyundai's way of keeping it competitive as the micro SUV segment gets busier.

This is a mid-life facelift, not a full redesign. The engine stays the same, the platform stays the same, but there are over 25 changes across the exterior, interior and features list. Some of them are genuinely useful.

Bookings are open at Rs 11,000.

The base HX2 at Rs 5.79 lakh directly competes with the Tata Punch which starts at Rs 6.22 lakh. The Exter is actually cheaper at entry level now.

2026 Hyundai Exter Facelift Exterior

The front gets a redesigned grille finished in gloss black. The word EXTER now sits on a black panel that connects the H-shaped LED DRLs across the front. The signature H-shaped DRL design is kept, which is a good call since it is one of the most recognisable faces in this segment.

Both front and rear bumpers are new, with silver inserts running across them. The wheel arch cladding is thicker and chunkier than before, giving the car a slightly more SUV-like stance. New 15-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels replace the old design. A new wing-type rear roof spoiler and updated C-pillar garnish round off the exterior changes.

Two new colours join the lineup Golden Bronze and Titanium Black Matte. A few older shades like Red and Blue are no longer available.

2026 Hyundai Exter Facelift Interior

The old all-black cabin is gone. The new dual-tone Navy and Grey theme feels noticeably more premium than what the Exter had before. The dashboard gets a 3D carbon-pattern finish. The seat upholstery is updated with a fresh pattern and Exter branding stitched in.

A few practical additions too. The driver seat now has height adjustment as standard across all variants. Rear headrests are adjustable on all variants. There is a new folding driver armrest and a flat-bottom D-cut steering wheel replacing the old unit. Metal pedals are a segment first and come on the HX10 top variant.

Boot space is 391 litres on petrol variants. CNG variants offer 225 litres of boot space with the dual-cylinder setup, which is significantly better than the old single-cylinder setup that ate into the boot badly. The spare wheel on CNG variants now sits under the car.

2026 Hyundai Exter Facelift Features

The biggest feature addition is wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay on mid and top variants. The previous model needed a cable for CarPlay. Rear passengers now get a USB Type-C charging port, which was missing before.

The dashcam continues as a segment-first feature. The 8-inch touchscreen, Bluelink connected car tech with 60 features and 300 voice commands, electric sunroof, digital instrument cluster and OTA update support all carry over. The top HX8 and HX10 variants also get a wireless phone charger and automatic climate control.

2026 Hyundai Exter Facelift Engine and Mileage

No changes under the hood. The same 1.2-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated Kappa petrol engine continues making 83hp and 114Nm. It pairs with a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT. The Exter is the only car in this segment with a four-cylinder engine — rivals like the Tata Punch use three-cylinder units.

The CNG version produces 69hp and 95Nm and comes only with a 5-speed manual.

ARAI-certified mileage figures will be confirmed officially but are expected to be similar to the outgoing model — around 19.2 kmpl for petrol manual and 19.3 km/kg for CNG.

2026 Hyundai Exter Facelift Safety

6 airbags are standard across all variants including the base HX2. This is a strong point. At Rs 5.79 lakh with 6 airbags, the Exter undercuts most rivals on both price and safety.

Over 45 safety features are on offer overall. These include ESC, HAC, TPMS, rear parking camera and ISOFIX child seat mounts. 30 safety features are standardised across every variant.

Who Does It Compete With

The 2026 Exter takes on the Tata Punch, Citroen C3X, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger in the micro SUV segment. At Rs 5.79 lakh it is now priced below the Tata Punch which starts at Rs 6.22 lakh. That pricing advantage at entry level is a significant change from before.
