India's two-wheeler market maintained its upward trajectory in May 2026, with leading manufacturers reporting healthy growth in both domestic and international markets.

Honda, Tvs, Bajaj

Strong rural demand, improved consumer sentiment, and steady replacement purchases continued to support sales across the motorcycle and scooter segments.

Among the major players, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) retained its position as the volume leader among Honda, TVS and Bajaj. Meanwhile, TVS Motor Company delivered its highest-ever monthly sales performance, while Bajaj Auto benefited from robust export demand and steady domestic growth.

The combined domestic sales of these three manufacturers exceeded 10.5 lakh units during the month, highlighting the resilience of India's two-wheeler industry despite increasing competition across traditional and electric vehicle segments.

Honda Continues to Lead in Domestic Sales

HONDA

Honda remained the largest seller among the three manufacturers during May 2026, posting domestic sales of 4,59,611 units. The company recorded a 10 percent year-on-year increase compared to the 4,17,250 units sold during the same month last year.

Exports also contributed positively to the company's performance. Honda shipped 59,166 units to overseas markets, taking its total sales to 5,18,777 units. The company registered overall growth of 12 percent compared to May 2025.

Honda's consistent performance was driven by continued demand for its scooter range, particularly in urban markets, as well as steady sales from its commuter motorcycle portfolio. The company has maintained a strong presence in both segments, allowing it to remain one of the most influential players in India's two-wheeler industry.

TVS Achieves Record-Breaking Monthly Sales

TVS

TVS Motor Company emerged as the standout performer of the month, recording its highest-ever monthly sales volume. Domestic two-wheeler sales rose by 24 percent to 3,84,565 units compared to 3,09,287 units in May 2025.

The company reported total two-wheeler sales of 5,43,111 units, while overall sales, including three-wheelers, reached a record 5,66,585 units.

TVS witnessed growth across nearly every major segment of its business. Motorcycle sales increased by 30 percent to 2,73,802 units, reflecting strong demand for the company's premium and commuter offerings. Scooter sales climbed 32 percent to 2,20,740 units, demonstrating the continued popularity of its scooter lineup among urban buyers.

One of the biggest highlights of TVS's performance was its electric vehicle business. EV sales surged by 56 percent year-on-year to reach a record 43,632 units, indicating growing consumer acceptance of electric mobility solutions.

International business also played a significant role in the company's success. Exports grew by 48 percent, showcasing strong demand in overseas markets and helping TVS achieve one of the strongest growth rates among Indian two-wheeler manufacturers.

Bajaj Auto Strengthens Position Through Exports

BAJAJ

Bajaj Auto reported domestic sales of 2,09,528 units in May 2026, marking a 9 percent increase over the corresponding month last year. While its domestic growth was more moderate compared to TVS, the company continued to demonstrate its strength in global markets.

Total two-wheeler sales, including exports, stood at 3,93,204 units, representing an 18 percent increase year-on-year. A major contributor to this performance was the company's export business.

Bajaj exported 1,83,676 two-wheelers during the month, recording a strong 30 percent growth compared to May 2025. The company's extensive international presence across Africa, Latin America, South Asia and other emerging markets continues to provide a significant advantage, helping offset fluctuations in domestic demand.

The performance also highlights Bajaj's ability to maintain momentum in a highly competitive market while expanding its global footprint.

What the Numbers Reveal

The May 2026 sales figures underline several important trends shaping India's two-wheeler industry.

First, consumer demand remains healthy across both motorcycles and scooters, particularly in the commuter segment. Second, exports are becoming an increasingly important growth driver for manufacturers such as TVS and Bajaj. Third, electric mobility is steadily gaining traction, with TVS recording substantial growth in EV sales.

The strong performance also suggests that manufacturers are benefiting from improved supply chains, better product availability and sustained demand from both urban and rural markets.

Conclusion

May 2026 proved to be another strong month for India's two-wheeler industry. Honda maintained its leadership in domestic volumes, TVS set new sales records and demonstrated impressive growth across multiple segments, while Bajaj continued to benefit from rising international demand.

As manufacturers expand their portfolios and invest in both traditional and electric mobility solutions, the coming months are expected to remain highly competitive, with strong consumer demand continuing to drive growth across the sector.
