The New Taigun Facelift 2026 – Price, Variants, Features & Full Details

Volkswagen India just launched the new Taigun facelift today on April 9, 2026. This is the first big update to the Taigun since it originally came to India back in 2021. So yes, after almost five years, the car has finally got a proper refresh.
The Taigun has always been a good car. People who bought it loved how it drives, how solid it feels and how German the whole experience is. But over time, rivals like Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos kept getting more features and fresher looks. So this update was needed and Volkswagen knows that.
Let's go through everything that is new in the 2026 Taigun facelift.
First Look – What Has Changed on the Outside

The moment you see the new Taigun you will notice it looks more modern and sharper than before. Volkswagen has done a clean job on the outside without changing the whole car.
Up front the biggest change is the full-width LED light bar that connects both headlamps across the grille. This is the same look you see on bigger Volkswagen cars like the Tiguan and Tayron. It gives the car a premium and wide face. The headlamps themselves are slimmer and have a curvier swept-back shape which looks quite fresh.
The grille is now smaller and neater. The bumper has been reworked with black inserts and the overall front end looks less boxy and more rounded compared to the old model.
One thing that really stands out is the illuminated Volkswagen logo. When you walk up to the car at night the VW badge glows and it feels properly premium. This detail alone makes the new Taigun feel like a step up from what it was.

On the sides the car keeps the same shape and proportions. You still get the strong shoulder lines and prominent roof rails. But Volkswagen has given it new alloy wheel designs which freshen up the overall look. The GT trims also get some sporty exclusive touches that make them look a bit more aggressive and exciting.
Chrome accents on the door handles are still there and the overall build quality looks solid as always.

At the rear the connected LED tail lamps have been reworked with a new lighting pattern. There is also an illuminated logo at the back which ties the whole design together nicely. The revised bumper at the rear looks cleaner too.
Colours Available

The new Taigun comes in nine colour options which is a good number. You can pick from deep teal blue, two shades of grey, a rich red, solid black, reflex silver metallic, pearl white, a two-tone black roof option and an olive or khaki shade for those who want something different.
The silver and white options look very clean and premium while the red one really suits the sporty GT trim versions.
Step Inside – What the Interior Looks Like

Inside the cabin the overall layout stays familiar but with some good updates. Volkswagen has given the new Taigun a refreshed dashboard with dual-tone premium interiors. The seats are leatherette with contrast stitching and piping which gives a nice upmarket feel.
If you go for the GT variants you also get GT embroidery on the seats and Laser Red ambient lighting inside the cabin. It creates a mood and makes night drives feel special.
The digital instrument cluster is now a 10-inch customisable unit called the Digital Cockpit. You can set it up the way you like and it shows all your driving information in a clean and modern way. The infotainment screen has also been updated and supports IDA voice command which means you can control things without touching the screen.
Other highlights inside include the panoramic sunroof which opens up the cabin and makes it feel airier. Front parking sensors are also there which makes parking in tight city spots a lot easier. Wireless charging is available too along with automatic climate control and ventilated front seats on higher variants.
Boot space is 385 litres which is a good number for this segment. If you fold down the rear seats it expands all the way up to 1405 litres which is quite a lot for a compact SUV.
Engines and Gearboxes – What Powers the New Taigun
The new Taigun comes with two engine options but three powertrain combinations. All three are petrol turbocharged engines and Volkswagen calls them TSI which stands for Turbocharged Stratified Injection. Whether you are a daily city commuter or someone who loves long highway drives there is an option here for you.

1.0L TSI Manual (6-Speed MT)
This is the one for people who like to be in control of their drive. The 1.0L three-cylinder turbo petrol engine makes 115 PS of power at 5000 to 5500 rpm and 178 Nm of torque kicking in from as low as 1850 rpm. That torque figure is quite good for a 1.0L engine and you will feel it in city traffic when you need a quick burst.
The engine displacement is 999cc and it pairs with a smooth 6-speed manual gearbox. Fuel efficiency is rated at 19.98 km/l which is the best in the Taigun lineup. So if you are someone who does not mind driving manual this combo gives you the best mileage and the most engaging drive.
1.0L TSI Automatic (8-Speed AT)
Same engine. Same 115 PS power and 178 Nm torque. But this time paired with a brand new 8-speed automatic gearbox. This is actually one of the most important upgrades in the new facelift because the old 1.0L automatic had a 6-speed torque converter which many people felt was not smooth enough.
The new 8-speed unit changes that. Gear shifts will be smoother and more refined in city stop-go traffic. Highway overtaking will also feel more effortless. Fuel efficiency comes in at 19.54 km/l which is still very good for an automatic. If you mostly drive in the city and want a relaxed experience this is probably the sweet spot in the whole Taigun range.
1.5L TSI DSG (7-Speed)
This is the engine for people who genuinely enjoy driving. The 1.5L four-cylinder turbo petrol engine has a displacement of 1498cc and it makes 150 PS of power at 5000 to 6000 rpm. Torque is 250 Nm and it builds from 1600 rpm onwards which means the power is available early and the car feels responsive from the word go.
This engine also gets something called Active Cylinder Technology or ACT. What this does is shut down two of the four cylinders when you are cruising at a steady speed and do not need full power. This saves fuel without you even noticing it. Fuel efficiency is rated at 18.85 km/l which is genuinely impressive for a 150 PS engine.
The 7-speed DSG gearbox is a dual-clutch unit and it is one of the sharpest feeling gearboxes you will find in this segment. The shifts are fast and precise and the car feels alive when you push it.

All three powertrain options share the same front McPherson suspension with stabiliser bar and rear twist beam axle setup. Front brakes are disc on all three. The 1.5L DSG gets disc brakes at the rear as well which gives it better stopping performance at higher speeds.
Variants – Which One Should You Pick
The new Taigun comes in quite a few variants to suit different budgets and needs. Here is a quick overview:
Comfortline – 1.0L TSI MT - This is the base variant. Simple, clean and gets you in the door. Good for buyers who want Volkswagen quality without spending too much.
Highline – 1.0L TSI MT and AT - A step up with more features. This is likely going to be the most popular variant because it hits a sweet spot between price and features. The AT option here now gets the new 8-speed automatic which makes it much more appealing than before.
Topline – 1.0L TSI MT and AT - Gets you more equipment. A well-rounded choice for family buyers who want a comfortable daily driver.
Highline Plus – 1.0L TSI MT and AT - Sits between Topline and GT Line in terms of features. Good for buyers who want a bit more without going all the way to the top spec.
GT Line – 1.0L TSI MT and AT - This is where things get sporty. GT Line brings in a sharper look and feel without the bigger engine. Great choice if you want the sportier look but prefer the 1.0L engine.
GT Plus Chrome – 1.5L TSI DSG - This is the serious driver's car. The 1.5L engine, 7-speed DSG and all the top features make this one of the best choices in the segment if budget allows.
GT Plus Sport – 1.5L TSI DSG - The range-topper. Maximum features, maximum performance and all the sporty touches inside and out.
Safety – Is the New Taigun Safe

The outgoing Taigun had a 5-star GNCAP rating which is one of the best you can get. The new facelift carries forward that strong safety foundation.
You get 6 airbags as standard across the range. Electronic Stability Control is there to keep the car stable in tricky situations. ABS with EBD, hill hold control, multi-collision braking and rear view camera are also standard. ISOFIX child seat anchors are available for families with young children.
The car also gets traction control and tyre pressure monitoring system. These are things that make a real difference during long drives or in bad weather.
Expected Price Range
Volkswagen has not officially announced the final prices yet but based on everything available the new Taigun facelift is expected to start somewhere around Rs 12 lakh and go up to around Rs 21 lakh for the top GT Plus Sport variant (all ex-showroom prices). Prices are being announced today so check the official Volkswagen India website for the final confirmed numbers.

The older Taigun was priced between Rs 11.42 lakh and Rs 19.19 lakh so expect a slight premium for all the new stuff you are getting.
Who Is It Up Against
The new Taigun will go head to head with some strong competitors in the compact SUV space. The main rivals are:
Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Sierra, Renault Duster, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and MG Astor.
This is a very competitive segment right now. But the Taigun has always had an edge in build quality, driving dynamics and the overall European feel that buyers looking for something a bit different really appreciate.
Should You Buy the New Taigun Facelift
If you were already interested in the Taigun but felt the old model was getting a bit dated in terms of looks and features then the new facelift fixes most of those concerns. The full-width LED light bar and illuminated logo give it a genuinely premium presence. The new 8-speed automatic on the 1.0L engine is a welcome upgrade. The panoramic sunroof, digital cockpit and refreshed interiors all make the cabin feel more modern.
And underneath all the new stuff the Taigun still has that same solid Volkswagen character. The ride is composed, the build feels tight and the TSI engines are proven and reliable.
For anyone who drives a lot and values how a car feels to drive every single day the new Taigun remains one of the better choices in its price range.
You can pre-book the new Taigun on the official Volkswagen India website or visit your nearest dealership for a test drive.
