VW GTI Edition 50 sets Fastest Front-Wheel-Drive Lap time Record at Nürburgring
Volkswagen steals the top spot from the Honda Civic Type R

Volkswagen has made a big statement in the hot hatch world as the Fastest Volkswagen Golf GTI Edition 50 has set the fastest FWD lap time at Nurburgring. The special edition GTI completed the Nürburgring record in 7 minutes 44.523 seconds, making it the fastest front-wheel-drive production car around the famous German circuit.
The record lap was driven by Volkswagen development and race driver Benjamin Leuchter. The previous benchmark was held by the Honda Civic Type R, which had posted a lap time of 7 minutes 44.881 seconds in 2023. That means the margin between the Type R and GTI is only 0.358 seconds, showing how close the battle is in the performance hatchback segment.
