Tata Motors Launches Altroz CNG AMT Prices Start at Rs 8.70 Lakh
India's first premium hatchback with an automatic CNG gearbox is finally here and it's more practical than ever.
If you've ever wanted the fuel savings of a CNG car but didn't want to deal with a manual gearbox in bumper-to-bumper traffic. Tata Motors has now combined both worlds with the launch of the Altroz iCNG AMT, making it the first and only premium hatchback in India to offer an automatic (AMT) transmission paired with a CNG powertrain.
Launched on May 11, 2026 in Mumbai, the Altroz iCNG AMT is priced starting at ₹8.69 lakh (ex-showroom). It's a smart move by Tata, especially at a time when CNG is one of the fastest-growing fuel choices in the country.

The 73.5 PS / 103 Nm output is perfectly adequate for daily city driving. The AMT handles the gear shifts automatically, which means stop-and-go traffic becomes far less tiring.
One of the biggest complaints people have with CNG cars is that the gas cylinder eats up most of the boot. Tata has solved this with their twin-cylinder iCNG technology and You still get a usable 210 litres of boot space even in CNG mode. First-in-segment the car starts directly on CNG without needing to warm up on petrol first.
