Hyundai India Turns 30 – 13.5 Million Cars Sold and Rs 45000 Crore Investment Ahead

Hyundai Motor India Limited completed 30 years in India on May 6 2026. The company was founded on this same date back in 1996 and today it is one of the most trusted car brands in the country. In three decades Hyundai has sold over 13.5 million cars in India and across the world. Out of these 9.6 million were sold in India and 3.9 million were exported to over 150 countries. Where It All Began

Hyundai broke ground on its first plant in Sriperumbudur near Chennai on May 6 1996. The plant started production in 1998 and was Hyundai's first car manufacturing facility outside South Korea. The Santro was the first car they launched in India and it became a massive hit with Indian families almost immediately. In 2025 Hyundai also opened its second plant in Talegaon near Pune. Both plants together can produce 9.94 lakh cars per year right now and that number will grow to 10.74 lakh per year by 2028.

What Hyundai Is Planning Next

This money will go into expanding manufacturing, building more electric cars and launching new products. Hyundai has already committed to launching 26 new cars and variants in India by 2030. This is the biggest product launch plan the company has ever announced for India.
Service Network That Goes Everywhere
One thing Hyundai has always done well in India is after-sales service. Today they have 1,675 service centres across 1,025 cities. They also run 162 Mobile Service Vans that travel to smaller towns and villages where there is no dealership nearby. 91 percent of all service jobs are opened digitally. At 632 workshops customers can watch their car being serviced through a live video stream from their phone. Over 3.2 million extended warranty policies have been sold covering up to 7 years of ownership.
Going Green
All of Hyundai's offices and plants in India now run on 100 percent renewable energy. At the Chennai plant 80 percent of water needs are met through rainwater harvesting. Zero liquid discharge means no water goes to waste. Over 350 energy saving projects in five years saved energy equal to 21,000 tonnes of oil in FY 2024-25.
Jobs and Community
Hyundai has created 15,000 to 18,000 direct jobs in India over 30 years. Through its dealers, suppliers and partners the total employment impact is 3.5 lakh to 4.5 lakh people. The company's CSR arm has invested over Rs 803 crore since 2014 touching 2.2 million lives every year across 28 states through education, healthcare and skill development programs.
