BMW Dominates Mercedes-Benz in Luxury EV Sales in India (FY2026)
Between April 2025 and March 2026, BMW India sold 3,537 electric cars, recording an impressive 124% jump as compared to the previous year. This strong performance helped the brand easily surpass Mercedes-Benz in the luxury EV segment.
BMW has Successful as the clear leader in India’s luxury electric vehicle (EV) segment in FY2026, leaving behind its long-time rival Mercedes-Benz by a big margin. The brand registered strong growth in electric vehicle sales, driven by rising demand and a well-positioned product lineup.

A major factor behind BMW’s success has been its focus on relatively accessible luxury EVs like the iX1, which has appealed to a broader range of buyers entering the premium electric segment. Building cars locally and offering competitive pricing has made it easier for the brand to grow stronger in the Indian market.
BMW’s strong performance pushed its market share to 65.45%, placing it well ahead of its rivals. Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz saw its EV sales decline to 1,047 units from 1,157 units, impacting both growth and share. In a major change, BMW also outsold Mercedes-Benz in the final quarter of FY2026 for the first time in over a decade. The company recorded 4,944 total units, slightly ahead of Mercedes-Benz’s 4,860 units, highlighting BMW’s consistent growth and its rising presence in the luxury car market
